Who is the NWSA

The Northwest Saddlebred Association, best known as the “NWSA” was established in 1960 by a group of American Saddlebred enthusiasts based in the Pacific Northwest. The NWSA consists of members who enjoy American Saddlebreds, Hackney Ponies and Roadster Horses. We are a recognized national Charter Club affiliated with the American Saddlebred Horse Association. The American Saddlebred Horse Association’s worldwide network of more than 50 Charter Clubs enriches the Saddlebred experience for members. As a club, we seek to educate people about and enjoy together the American Saddlebred. We have members of all ages, with many different interests and backgrounds- all with the American Saddlebred in common. We have members from Western Canada, Montana, Washington, Oregon and Idaho. While many of our members show their horses, many members are involved in all types of pleasure activities with Saddlebreds or Hackney Ponies. Our horses show in 5-Gaited, 3-Gaited, Country Pleasure, Western Pleasure, Driving, Hunter, Halter, Roadster, Dressage…the list goes on and on. We have Academy classes for anyone just getting started in showing. These beautiful horses are by no means limited to showing and neither are our members. There are trail riders, endurance racers, hunters, jumpers, dressage riders, combined driving competitors, parade riders, even three-day eventers. These horses go as far as our members do. Not all of our members own horses but they do share interest in the breed and a desire to be involved. Join us in promoting our breed and getting to know our membership. You’ll meet people, horses, and gain a passion to last a lifetime! There are many faces to American Saddlebreds, not all of them what you might think. This all-American breed, well known as a spectacular show horse, is the world’s most beautiful and game athlete. What many people don’t know is that these horses can do dressage, trail ride, endurance race, go hunter/jumper, team drive, parade, do drill team, fine harness…the list goes as long as you like. They are smart and personable. They date way back, and were first established as strong warriors on the battle field. They will be your best friend and best teammate in any of the directions you want to go. The NWSA is committed to promoting all aspects of the American Saddlebred breed. We are building efforts for breed promotion at expos and all breed events throughout our drawing area. Lesson programs are available with knowledgeable trainers throughout the Northwest.
